Install any Linux distro directly from hard disk without burning any DVD
This time I can really say - the title says it all. Stop wasting CDs when you use them only once. Try this.
After you download any Linux distro from the internet, you have to burn it to a DVD, CD or a number of CDs to install it. That CD or DVD is generally used only once after which it lies unused , and worse, almost every Linux distro comes up with a new release every 6 months. So if you are in the habit of upgrading to every new version, you must have dozens of CDs lying at the bottom of your drawer. What a wastage of CDs! But with a little trick you can install any Linux directly from the hard disk without burning a single CD or DVD. The prerequisite of this trick is to have an operating system already installed on your computer. This is obvious because unless you are able to boot into your machine, you can't install anything; and we are not going to boot from the Linux disk because we aren't burning any. Membuat Lokal Repository di Zencafe 1.2
Haiii, pa kabar
Kali ini penulis mencoba membuat lokal repository install program di distro zencafe 1.2 namun bagi pengguna zenwalk atau yang masih turunan slackware jangan kecewa dahulu. Karena secara setting default alias pengaturan asli pada distro zencafe yang selalu konek ke internet. Sebagai contoh hendak meng-install program :

lalu muncul pilihan list url repository zenwalk maupun zencafe , seperti :

Hal ini penulis lakukan karena tidak mempunyai koneksi internet di rumah. Dan ide ini, penulis dapat dari komunitas ubuntu yang mengembangkan dvd repo ubuntu dari berbagai macam versi yang ada.

- Downloadlah mirror website repository package zencafe, untuk ini kita dapat melihat file netpkg.conf yang berada di file /etc/netpkg atau masuk pake user root ketik mousepad /etc/netpkg.conf setelah itu terlihat setingan server repo zencafe, pilih salah satu yang cepat dan dekat dengan kita.
- Setelah itu buat lokal server dengan menginstall apache+php, karena kebetulan di ubuntu penulis sudah ada apache+php+mysql lewat xampplite versi linux. Maka penulis tinggal memount iso dvd ke folder htdocs xampplite.
- Setelah termount di folder htdocs, jalankan xampplite dengan mengetik /opt/lampp/lampp start pada shell dengan user root. Setelah itu ketik http://localhost/repodvd/zencafe (milik penulis). Bila tampilannya sama seperti dvd anda, berarti sukses.
- Sebelum menjalankannya, ketik mousepad /etc/netpkg.conf pada shell dengan akses root. Setelah itu edit atau copy dari setingan yang ada pada tulisan berikut
sebelum :
"Internet_mirror = http://ftp.sh.cvut.cz/MIRRORS/zenwalk/i486/current"
sesudah :
"Internet_mirror = http://localhost/repodvd/zencafe/"
setelah itu simpan.
maka akan dilakukan siskronisasi bila berhasil maka siap dijalankan.
Setelah itu bisa install program secara offline.

Beryl di Zencafe 1.2
Setelah oprek sana sini, akhirnya aku bisa install beryl di Zencafe 1.2 yang baru saja dilaunching pada hari kemerdekaan RI yang ke 62. Dengan berbekal tutorial dari zenwalk wiki.
Aku coba install beryl di komputerku, berhubung di rumah tidak punya koneksi internet, maka saya mengunduh berkas file yang berhubungan dgn beryl sesuai petunjuk yang ada di Linux Blog,
dengan semangat pantang menyerah, karena setiap saya jalankan berylnya, window border selalu hilang karena menurut tutorialnya beryl punya window manager sendiri, jadi harus membunuh window manager default zencafe yaitu xfce.
Berikut adalah screenshotnya beryl yang sudah menyatu dengan distro zencafe 1.2 ku :

Penggiat Open Source Lebih 'Banyak Omong' Daripada Kerja
Penetrasi sistem operasi dan aplikasi berbasis software open source di Indonesia dinilai lamban karena komunitas pengembangnya lebih "banyak omong" daripada aksi nyatanya.
Padahal, kata Menteri Komunikasi dan Informatika Mohammad Nuh, open source sangat diharapkan menjadi jawaban untuk mengentaskan penggunaan software ilegal di Tanah Air.
"Kita agak lamban menggarap open source karena lebih banyak diskusinya ketimbang ngerjainnya," selorohnya di hadapan para pengusaha TIK yang tergabung dalam Komite Tetap Kadin Telematika, di Wisma Kadin, Selasa petang (31/7/2007).
"Padahal mereka (komunitas open source Indonesia - red.) tinggal bilang, butuh biaya berapa untuk mengembangkannya agar bisa digunakan masyarakat secara user friendly," tambahnya.
Nuh mengatakan, Departemen Komunikasi dan Informatika saat ini telah berhasil mengembangkan software yang bisa digunakan untuk proses migrasi, khususnya bagi warung internet (warnet) yang kerap jadi sasaran sweeping kepolisian karena masalah penggunaan sofware bajakan.
"Software open source ini sudah bisa diunduh melalui situs www.foss.web.id. Di dalamnya juga disertakan 40 program aplikasi yang bisa digunakan layaknya aplikasi yang ada di software proprietary," tuturnya.

install WCC (Web Content Control) bag 1.
Setelah mengunjungi planet ubuntu, saya tertarik pada salah satu postingan tentang ubuntu muslim edition yang dtulis oleh Mahyuddin Susanto, kemudian saya klik link tersebut ternyata di situs tersebut dituliskan artikel yang membahas distro ubuntu versi muslim edition atau ubuntu me. Yang mempunyai aplikasi yang oke punya dengan screenshot login window, WCC (Web Content Control), Pengingat waktu sholat dan lain-lain. Saya tertarik pada bahasan WCC tersebut, kemudian saya teringat pada salah satu tool aplikasi milik windows vista yaitu parental control yang berfungsi sama dengan WCC nya ubuntu me, dimana seseorang dibatasi dalam melakukan akses sebuah aplikasi yang ada, kalo di WCC dalam situs tersebut, seseorang dibatasi dalam mengakses website palyboy dengan munculnya pesan "ACCESS DENIED" sedangkan pada aplikasi parental control milik vista (All version) seseorang dapat dibatasi kontrolnya dalam mengakses semua aplikasi yang ada di windows tersebut. Salah satu contoh yang menarik adalah akses pada game yang mengandung unsur kekerasan dan lain-lain, misal game Playboy.
Nah berdasarkan hal diatas muncul keisengan saya untuk mencoba install WCC pada komputer ubuntu saya.
berikut adalah langkah penginstalan WCC :
1.Backup repository ubuntu anda dengan
$ sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.asli
lalu tambahkan repository ubuntu me pada repository ubuntu kita, dengan
$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
lalu tambahkan di bagian bawah repository anda , misal
#repository dari ubuntu me
deb http://www.ubuntume.com/repository feisty main
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty universe
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty universe
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-backports main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty-backports main restricted universe multiverse
setelah itu save lalu exit dari gedit.
jangan lupa tambahkan GPG untuk kunci kita mengakses repository ubuntu e :

$ sudo gpg --export --armor D64E21E8 | sudo apt-key add -

AWALI jatim
Telah berdiri AWALI (Asosiasi Warnet Linux dan open source Indonesia) JATIM yang diketuai oleh Saudara Martinus Ady H. Sehingga seluruh warnet di kediri memakai Linux sebagai basis sistem operasinya adapun warnet yang tergabung di awali jatim ini adalah warnet media groups, warnet Evo, Warnet Bima, Warnet Tinet dan warnet yang lain.
Adapun asal muasal berdirinya AWALI Jatim ini diawali dengan organisasi KPLI Kediri yang mengadakan seminar dan workshop linux yang mengambil tema "PENGEN AMAN DARI SWEEPING PAKE LINUX NDA" dengan mengetengahkan distro Zencafe sebagai operating systemnya, dan dalam seminar tersebut hadir pembuat distronya yaitu Anjar Hardiena (Zarathustra) dan Jefri Priambodo (SegmentFault) sebagai pembuat billing warnet pada distro tersebut mengenalkan tentang adanya AWALI yang didirikannya sekaligus Wadah dari warnet linux yang ada, disamping itu pula Beliau men-sahkan berdirinya AWALI Jatim di kediri yang diketuai oleh martinus dengan serah terima jaket AWALI Pusat kepada ketua AWALI Jatim.

Coba compiz desktop di ubuntu feisy fawn
Akhirnya aku bisa cobain compiznya ubuntu alias desktop effectnya, maklum pengen coba windoz vista tapi dokunya kurang. pengen downloads tapi gak ada. trus dikenalkan seorang teman pakai ubuntu, trus pesen di shipit.ubuntu.com kirim cd ubuntu dapat versi feisty-fawn yang sangat memukau.
Dan kebetulan di kotaku di kediri diadakan seminar linux desktop yang keynote speakernya dari depkominfo sekaligus dari komunitas ubuntu indonesia. Di seminar tersebut, pembicara tersebut mengenalkan ubuntu sebagai alternatif os yang ada sekarang ini dan berifat legal os. Dan salah satu pembicara yang ada menginstall ubuntu, menampilkan desktop effect yang dipunyai oleh ubuntu.
Setelah selesai mengikuti seminar tersebut, saya mempraktekkan ubuntu, yang kebetulan included ketika mengikuti seminar tersebut. Pertama saya coba menjalankan desktop effects di ubuntu ketika menjalankan ubuntu sebagai livecd dan berhasil.
Akhirnya saya install ubuntu feisty fawn sebagai pengganti windoz saya. Dan teknologi compiz ini jadi andalan saya dalam install ubuntu desktop.
Adapun cara menjalankan desktop effect di ubuntu adalah sebagai berikut :
klik system pada menu bar lalu pilih preference lalu desktop effect.
dan ikuti perintah yang ada.
lalu test dengan menekan tombol Ctrl+Alt sambil tekan anak panah kiri kanan maka dekstop kita akan berputar.
